Recently (12/4/16), a letter to the Los Angeles Times mentioned that Paris ATMs were only dispensing 100 euro notes when withdrawals are made with a credit card; with few businesses accepting them, and banks refusing to break them into smaller denominations.
Solutions are to bring some smaller denominations from home; and maybe break 100 euros at the hotel where one is staying in.
Bring a combination of cash, a bank card with Chip and PIN, and a credit card.
“EMV” stands for Europay, MasterCard and Visa.
Make copies of the bank and credit card; and keep it separate from the physical ones.
Don’t have the physical items all in one place.
